COURSE CODING

Each course in the Faculty of Technology is identified by a seven character code of which the first three characters are letters identifying the programme e.g. CIV (for Civil Engineering), ELE (for Electrical Engineering) and MEC (for Mechanical Engineering). The last four characters in a course code are numeric. The first digit designates the level (e.g ‘1’ for level I, etc.). The second digit designates the credit hours for the course. The last two digits designate the serial number of the course. For example the code ELE3201 represents an electrical engineering course (ELE), for level III (3rd year), with 2 credit hours which is serially numbered as No. 1.

Level I Courses

These are conducted in the Faculty of Science and are common to Civil, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering students. These are considered to be preparatory courses. There are fifteen courses in all; giving a total of 32 credit units for the two semesters.

Level II Courses

These are conducted in the Faculty of Technology and also common to Civil,  Electrical and Mechanical Engineering students. There are nineteen courses at this level; giving a total of 42 credit units for the two semesters.

Level III & IV Courses
These are listed in the Syllabus.
